Blame the Heat

No, not the basketball team.
This insane heat wave over the Midwest has been making it very difficult for me to sleep. I wake up, sweating, and turn on my air conditioner, which keeps me awake with the noise. I'm up for about an hour, waiting for my room to cool off, then I kill the A/C and go back the sleep. Or try to, anyway.
Lying awake, I had the idea to write gritty reboots (because everything has to be gritty nowadays) of children's stories. Make them a little more plausible and realistic. Because why not?
I started outed with Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and I've remembered why I wanted to be an author when I was younger - The sheer joy of writing a story, having the power to make things happen, controlling what a person says or does.
I've given up that dream of authoring a best-selling novel (Though if Stephanie Meyer could do it, how hard could it really be?) in favor of a more practical aspiration to be a chemist, but it's something I'm glad I started doing again.

Blistered Fingers

That's what happens when I don't play the guitar for almost a year and then try learning two new songs at once. It was a fairly successful session, and I now have "Like Steps in a Dance" by Anchor & Braille and "Imaginary Enemy" by Circa Survive in my musical abilities library.
However, I don't expect to pick my guitar up for another day or two, and I'm wondering why I always go so long without playing.
I mean, I can't get better without practice. And since this horrible economy prevents me from finding a job before I return to school in August, I'm trying to enhance my life in some way. Enter guitar.
